Our Suppliers
As part of our commitment to great products we visit all of our factories throughout the world at least annually checking on product quality, staff conditions and pay, and the environmental impact of the production of these goods. We have left factories that haven’t met our standards even though it has meant taking a hit on price.
Our Latex Glove factory uses a world class and certified, pollution controlled boiler. Water used in the manufacturing process is purified on site and piped into ponds where fish are grown and used by the local village for food. (See photo of factory below) Our Nitrile Glove factory has worked with us to fit our product precisely to packaging. This has allowed us to carry up to 320,000 more gloves per container, reducing freight costs and fuel use per glove. Some questions that may be worth asking a Supplier when choosing a latex or nitrile glove:1. Ask your rep when they (or anyone from their company) last visited the factory - what did they see? 2. How are the staff looked after? Are they paid and housed well? 3. Environmental impact - what do the boilers use for fuel? 4. Environmental impact - where does the waste water go? (And there is a lot of waste water!) 5. Are the gloves chlorinated or polymer coated? If polymer - ask for the sensitivity testing and FDA or EN certification for human contact. 6. Are the packing rooms closed or open? Is the room up to Health and Safety standard? Why are we passionate about this? Eagle Direct has been in factories that have more flies than workers in the packing room. They discharge heated and contaminated water direct into the local river system. They burn oil to fire their boilers without any filtration or pollution control equipment. We may not be the cheapest glove supplier in New Zealand, but we will always offer the best value in New Zealand for a tested and proven quality product. |
